Bricsys is a global provider of dwg CAD software brought to market under the BricsCAD® brand through a community of channel partners and application developers. Bricsys, and its flagship product BricsCAD, were acquired primarily to provide Hexagon with a presence in the AEC design space to complement some of its existing offerings and the industries they serve. Don Strimbu is currently the vice-president of communications at Bricsys, but in the past, he worked for Autodesk for many years. At last month’s Bricsys conference in London, the first big news was that the company had been acquired by Hexagon for an undisclosed sum. For those unfamiliar with Hexagon, it is a global giant of a firm, that operates in construction, engineering, mining, automotive and plant and has annual revenues in excess of £1.2 billion.

Bricsys CAD is a software application for computer-aided design (CAD), developed by Bricsys nv. The company was founded in 2002 by Erik de Keyser, a long time CAD entrepreneur. In 2011 Bricsys acquired the intellectual property rights from Ledas for constraints-based parametric design tools, permitting the development of applications in the areas of direct modelling and assembly design. Bricsys is headquartered in Ghent, Belgium, and has additional development centres in Nizhny Novgorod and Novosibirsk, Russia; Bucharest, Romania and Singapore. Bricsys is a founding member of the Open Design Alliance, and joined the BuildingSMART International consortium in December 2016.

In 2018, Bricsys nv was acquired in full by Hexagon AB of Sweden.
